Where We Stayed in St. Thomas

For our family vacation to St. Thomas I decided on a vacation rental over a hotel. Hotel rooms can be nice, but there was no way a hotel could compare to 5 bedrooms, 6 baths and a large, comfortable, common living area.

tajbyseastthomasvacationrental1After doing lots of research online, and talking with the owner, we went with Lil Taj By The Sea. To say it was a great choice is an understatement. Check out all of those windows with AMAZING views of the ocean. And many of the doors and windows open allowing a beautiful Caribbean breeze. Yep, it was just as relaxing as you’re thinking, :-).

Those same doors open up to the wraparound porch, where you can take in the beauty of the island and ocean.

This photo was taken from the porch. Even on cloudy days it was beautiful.

As if the view wasn’t enough, Lil Taj is about a 7-minute walk to the ocean. But, it’s not your typical 7-minute walk. It’s through a private path that is a beautiful adventure all by itself. Here’s a short video capturing some of it.

The 7-minute timing was easily doable by everyone in my party, including the kids.

The path leads to Abi Beach, which has a bar that also serves great food. The bar was low-key while we were there, but they have a stage and volleyball court which makes me think there are some lively times, too.

AbiBeachBarstthomasWe spent all day there two days and it was perfect. We packed snacks and drinks, but it was nice to order lunch food, too. In fact, one day we were the only people there for most of the day. It felt like our own private beach, :-).

After we left the beach, we rinsed off and spent our evenings (and nights!) by the pool.

For photos of all of the rooms, including the bathrooms and kitchen, check out the Lil Taj by the Sea listing on Homeaway. You can also see reviews from other renters. Other things to know:

  • The property manager on the island met us at the airport and took us to the home. He was a great resource the entire vacation for taxi suggestions, grocery shopping, etc.
  • The owner returns calls and will do his best to make sure you are comfortable. I liked that I could reach out to him when needed and that he also checked in to make sure everything was fine.
  • You don’t have to rent all five rooms. Due to the size of our party we did, but your rate depends on how many people stay.
  • The wifi worked. This was very important to me because this was a working vacation and good wifi was non-negotiable. There are also lots of TVs.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. And if you visit St. Thomas, ENJOY!
